Science Week 2024

Science Week brought huge excitement to Scoil Bhríde this year as it usually does. It never disappoints!

We all took part in experiments during the week watched really informative Science Video Workshops and took part in initiative  organised by Science Week by NUIG.

We also really enjoyed Fact Of The Day  also where our Principal Mr O Connor announced fun and interesting and amazing Science facts over the intercom.

SFI (Science Foundation Ireland)

Curious Minds Programme

"Supporting schools to develop the innate curiosity of children through a hands-on, inquiry-based approach to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) learning."

In 2020 we first began our journey in seeking accreditation from the SFI Awards. Through the hard work from our students we have been very successful in the various stages of Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and STEM Show and Tell. We are currently embarking on our next award for 2025!

Junior Achievement Ireland

"The Primary Programme "Teckno" targets senior primary students to educate them at a young age, about

technology and tech careers. Using games to demystify technology, this SFI and Dell

supported workshop/programme introduces students to AI, Data Analytics and cyber security. "

2025 was the first year that the pupils in 5th class were lucky to engage in the Junior Achievement Ireland Programme. The sessions involved covered internet safety, creating passwords, identifying suspicious emails, technology through the ages, careers in technology and engaging in various interactive yet challenging games on our iPads.

ESB Science Blast 2024

"ESB Science Blast is a free, non-competitive educational programme for primary schools (3rd to 6th Class/Key Stage 2), involving the whole class investigating the science behind a simple question".

Each year our 4th class pupils have become young scientists as part of the ESB Science Blast Programme. 2024 saw the pupils investigate various senses and carried out many experiments through the school to gather their findings.

STEM

STEM challenges are fast becoming a firm favourite with our pupils here at Scoil Bhríde! The pupils were lucky to enjoy weekly sessions ran by "The STEM Superstars" during the winter months. The pupils engaged in various STEM challenges which led to the creation and building of everything from spiders, to cars to even a golf course!

Seashore Safari

Our pupils in the middle classes enjoy an annual trip to our local shore, Grattan Beach to learn about Galway’s seashore life. They get an opportunity to identify the animals and plants found there and how they live together, while also playing their part in protecting the beach by carrying out a beach clean.
