Local Trails and Walking Tours
The City of the Tribes
This Autumn the pupils of 5th class went on a local walking tour of Galway city. Our walking tour incorporated the three SESE curricular subjects of History, Geography and Science as well as Maths . Pre-walking tour lessons and research helped bring the learning to life, along with the strolling and meandering through the streets of our local city while taking in all the sights of the buildings steeped in History.
During the walk pupils learnt about the local history of the city of the tribes.
We teamed up with the Heritage in Schools programme and were given a guided tour by Martin Curley which included;
Lynch's Castle
Eyre Square
Galway Cathedral
Quay Street
Hall of the Red Earl
Spanish Arch
St Nicholas Church
Pádraic O'Conaire
